Body recovered from Nigel quarry by SAPS Diving Unit

Members of the Ekurhuleni Water Policing and Diving Services used specialist equipment to recover the body of an adult male from a steep quarry face.

On the afternoon of June 24, members from the SAPS Ekurhuleni Water Policing and Diving Services were deployed to a scene at a quarry along Marivale Road in Nigel leading to the recovery of a body.

“Just after midday, members responded to a call of a body floating in the quarry on a brick site,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, communication officer for Gauteng Police Emergency Services.

“The body of an adult male was recovered at the edge of the water against a deep quarry face.
“A stokes basket was used to place the body in, which then, with the assistance of members, had to be winched up the steep incline.”

The body was handed to Nigel SAPS for further investigation.
