Road safety campaign conducted

The campaign was held as part of Transportation Month and in preparation of the upcoming festive season.

The EMPD Social Crime Prevention Unit officers continued to engage taxi owners, drivers and commuters on road safety for public transport in the Nigel and Daveyton areas on October 21 and 22, from 08:00 to 14:00 on both days.

Nearing the end of Transport Month and in preparation for the upcoming festive season, the EMPD continues to raise awareness of road safety.

“It is evident that public transportation plays a major role in our communities, servicing a large number of the labour force,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa.

“The EMPD works tirelessly to share knowledge and information to positively influence driver and pedestrian behaviour.”

Taxi owners and drivers welcomed the officers to the Nigel and Daveyton taxi ranks in an initiative to encourage them to practice caution at all times on public roads when serving the community.

The EMPD applauded the participation of taxi owners and drivers and welcomed the partnership with taxi associations to improve road safety for public transport.
