Heidelberg Hospital among first to be ready for NHI in Gauteng

The Heidelberg Hospital received the Office of Health Standard Compliance certificate.

The Heidelberg Hospital received accreditation from the Office of Health Standard Compliance (OHSC) and is among facilities in the Sedibeng District to have its facilities accredited and ready for the NHI (National Health Insurance) Bill.

Sedibeng District Health Services is the first district in Gauteng to have all its facilities accredited and is adamant about delivering quality healthcare to its clientele.

This time, people living within the perimeters and outskirts of the Sedibeng District will continue to reap the fruits of good service delivery when health facilities across the district receive the OHSC compliance certificates.

This gesture indicates that all recognised facilities can save a life, according to the OHSC findings.

The OHSC is an independent body that ensures compliance with the required health standards in the public and private sectors.

The final gesture of the certificate-issuing ceremony unfolded at the hospital on October 18, where the acting chief director for Sedibeng District Health Services, Lindani Sonwabo, commended everyone involved for setting the bar high in Gauteng.

“We can proudly say we are the first health district in the province to have all facilities certified, meaning we are ready for the NHI because all health facilities need to go through the OHSC for accreditation for NHI. In the Sedibeng District, we have Sebokeng Regional Hospital, Kopanong District Hospital, Heidelberg Hospital and 38 clinics. All these facilities are accredited. We thank everybody in the health sector because everybody is important. You cannot have a good doctor without a good porter who will bring the patient,” said Sonwabo.

In closing, the Heidelberg Hospital CEO, Itumeleng Molatlhegi, thanked the hospital team for pulling through.

“I thank the logistics manager. Most of the admin and support is under him. I also extend my gratitude to the nursing staff. The nurses at the Heidelberg Hospital are like diamonds; they can stand the heat. I highly appreciate the interns of the Heidelberg Hospital. They are grateful, always passionate and excel in whatever they do. Thank you very much to the entire hospital team,” Molatlhegi said.
