Cash for scrap dealers given 28 days to comply

The same businesses were also found to be in contravention of fire regulations.

Nigel SAPS, in collaboration with various City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) law enforcement stakeholders and representatives from Nigel Clean Up, conducted a municipal by-law and zoning enforcement blitz at three cash-for-scrap dealers in Nigel on October 26.

During the blitz, law enforcement officers checked for proper documentation to verify the sources of the scrap metal to ensure all transactions were conducted legally.

Two of the three businesses were in contravention of municipal zoning regulations and received 28-day notices to comply.

The same two businesses also received fire regulation contravention notices. The Solid Waste Department will also add waste removal charges to the municipal accounts for broken Ekurhuleni wheelie bins found on the premises.

Three cash-for-scrap businesses were found to be in contravention of the municipal law.
