Young soccer players shine at junior tournament
The age groups in the tournament included U13 and U15 players.
The McKenzieville Stadium in Alra Park came alive with excitement on November 30, as young soccer enthusiasts gathered for a junior soccer tournament.
The event aimed to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among children while providing them with a positive outlet to stay engaged and steer clear of mischief and criminal influences.
The age groups in the tournament included U13 and U15 players.
The results are as follows:
The U13 final was contested between Siwele Football Club and Porto Football Club. Siwele was crowned the winner after the match was determined by penalties. They won 5-4.
The U15 final was between Cheese Boys FC and Sunrise FC. Cheeseboys was crowned champions.
U13 outstanding players:
Player of the tournament: Vuyo Mathe (Siwelele FC), Top goal scorer: Bheki Nkambule (Siwelele FC) and goalkeeper of the tournament: Thato Dhlamini (Porto FC).
U15 outstanding players: player of the tournament: Smakelo Nkutha (Sunrise FC).
Top goal scorer: Sanele Tshabalala (Cheeseboys FC) and goalkeeper of the tournament: Mzamo Malinga.
“Throughout the tournament, the boys played quality football and showed a lot of skill on the field. With coaching and guidance there could be a few stars in the making,” said organiser Sizwe Masondo.
