WATCH: Heidelberg Hope embarks on large-scale clean-up projects for Earth Month
The Heidelberg Cemetery has been identified as one of the areas requiring a large scale clean-up. The Heidelberg Hope team will tackle the cemetery on April 17th and is requesting the community to get involved and assist.
Heidelberg Hope changed their celebration of Earth Day on April 22 to Earth Month and will focus on large-scale clean-up projects throughout the month of April.
Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22, is a global event dedicated to environmental awareness and action.
The celebration of Earth Day encourages individuals, communities, and governments to protect the planet through activities like clean-ups, tree planting, climate education, and sustainability initiatives.
The day serves as a reminder that small actions can lead to significant environmental change.
Heidelberg Hope is celebrating Earth Month with a hands-on approach to the cleaning and upliftment of the town.
Clean-up projects take place every Thursday and since the inception of Heidelberg Hope in April 2022, numerous clean-up projects in Heidelberg, Rensburg and Ratanda take place weekly.
Potholes have also been repaired, significantly improving road conditions.
“This past week, we successfully repaired 24 potholes covering a total area of 10.1 m². Unfortunately, the weather isn’t always favourable, as sunny days are essential for effective repairs.
“We do understand that there are a lot of problem areas, and between ourselves and Lesedi Local Municipality, we will try to get to every area, however, for now, we aim to address the areas with the most damage and the highest traffic volumes,” said Nicolene Neveling, Heidelberg Hope spokesperson.
Neveling encouraged residents to continue to report potholes on the LLM App, which can be downloaded from the Playstore or iStore.
The Heidelberg Hope team and Lesedi Community Centre together with LLM tackled the road between Rensburg and the R23 Balfour road on April 3, where they cleaned up the area and cut the grass.

“We received complaints from numerous residents about the state of the Heidelberg Cemetery. We will do a large-scale clean-up project at the cemetery on April 17 and request the community to get involved and help us,” Neveling said.
