Heidelberg-born scholar earns Master’s in health sciences

After a decade working as a medical technologist in Abu Dhabi and years of study, Heidelberg-born Shanta Padiachy achieved her Master’s degree from the University of Johannesburg.

Shanta Padiachy, the daughter of prominent Heidelberg resident and former Heidelberg Business Chamber member Paddy Padiachy, recently graduated with a Master’s degree.

Shanta began her schooling at Shalimar Ridge Primary School in Heidelberg before attending William Hills High School in Benoni.

She later studied Medical Technology at the Wits Technikon (1991–1993) and completed her practical training at Lancet Laboratories. After qualifying as a medical technologist, she worked in Abu Dhabi for 10 years.

Shanta Padiachy has a master’s degree.

At the University of South Africa (2003–2008), she achieved a Bachelor of Arts degree. Despite her busy schedule, Shanta continued her studies at the Vaal University of Technology (2013–2014), obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in biomedical technology.

She then enrolled at the University of Johannesburg (2023–2025), where she graduated with a Master’s degree in Health Sciences.

Shanta is also a qualified assessor and moderator and lectures in medical technology at the Ampath Laboratory in Centurion.
