6-year-old boy drowns in Nigel Dam near Hallgate Smallholdings

The Gauteng National Sea Rescue Institute, the SAPS and the Gauteng Emergency Medical Services acted quickly, but the boy could not be saved.

The Nigel SAPS confirmed that a six-year-old boy drowned in a dam near Hallgate smallholdings in Nigel on September 7.

According to the Gauteng National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) report, the boy drowned while swimming.

The NSRI received a report at 19:22 of a drowning in progress and immediately dispatched crew from the NSRI Gauteng Station 27 Base Rescue.

On arrival, the Nigel SAPS, Police Search and Rescue and the Gauteng Emergency Medical Services were already on site and confirmed that a boy had gone missing.

A SAPS diver searched underwater and found the body, which was transported to the Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Nigel SAPS has opened an inquest docket.
