The Lesedi Fire and Rescue team is mourning the loss of one of its longest-serving members, Mongezi Edward Banda (53), who passed away on October 28.

Banda, a veteran firefighter, had served in the Lesedi Local Municipality’s Fire and Rescue Division since 2000.

Over the years, he became a familiar and respected figure within the department and the Heidelberg community.

According to his colleagues, Banda was known for his professionalism, dedication, and friendly nature, often taking time to greet fellow emergency personnel and community members at incident scenes.

Lesedi Fire and Rescue had not yet announced Banda’s memorial service arrangements at the time of publication.
