Heidelberg Athletics Club wrapped up the year with its annual Christmas run on December 20, attracting 72 runners and walkers. The event promoted fitness, community spirit, and local talent.

Heidelberg Athletics Club concluded 2025 on a high note after hosting its successful Christmas run on December 20, attracting 72 participants from Heidelberg and surrounding areas.

Organised by the club’s Red Army, the event brought together runners and walkers in a festive atmosphere, with participants taking to the streets in a colourful show of community spirit.Athletes could choose between a 12km run and a 6km walk, ensuring that people of varying ages and fitness levels could participate.

The event’s success was bolstered by strong support from local businesses and neighbouring athletic clubs.

Heidelberg Athletics Club coach Ndumiso Mayongo praised the turnout and community involvement.

“The Christmas run was amazing. People came out in great numbers; they had fun and enjoyed every kilometre.
“The support from Heidelberg as a community was incredible and we are very grateful for it. Having local businesses involved also made a big difference, as it helped us to spread the word and made the event feel like a genuine community effort,” he said.

Mayongo added, “These events expose local talent that we didn’t even know existed in the community. They also help regular runners, walkers, and everyone who is active not to fall behind, especially when many people lose momentum because of the festive season.

“The positive response has already inspired the club to look ahead and start thinking about 2026 because we have more events in the pipeline. Anyone interested in joining can contact us via our social media page,” he said.
