Multiple injured as emergency services respond to R23 crash near Heidelberg

Emergency crews from multiple services were called out to a serious collision on the R23 on January 3, where several people were injured, and one had to be extricated after a vehicle overturned.

Emergency services were activated on January 3 following a serious motor vehicle accident on the R23 involving a bakkie and a light motor vehicle.

Heidelberg Volunteer Medics and First Responders responded to the scene alongside Netcare, Gauteng Provincial Government Emergency Services, ER 24, Lesedi Fire, and Lesedi Traffic.

Reports indicated that multiple patients sustained injuries during the collision, during which the light motor vehicle overturned, leaving one patient trapped inside the vehicle.

Lesedi Fire personnel successfully carried out the extrication, allowing emergency medical teams to access and treat the patient.

All injured individuals received medical attention on the scene before being transported by various ambulances to a local hospital for further treatment. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
