Nigel Rugby Club gears up for new season
A new season, new challenges, and big plans as Nigel Rugby Club gets ready for 2026.
Nigel Rugby Club has already started its preparations for the 2026 season, which will get underway in February.
In 2025, Nigel competed in the Valke Peregrine League. Although the results did not always go their way, the team proved they could stand toe to toe with some of the bigger and more established clubs.
The 2026 season will kick off with the highly anticipated derby against Heidelberg Rugby Club on February 7. The two rivals will again contest the Masons Cup, which is currently held by Nigel following their 29-22 victory in 2025.
Nigel will also host the annual Rugby Day on March 7 at John Vorster Stadium, an event that has become a highlight on the club’s calendar. In addition, the club will compete in both the Presidents and Peregrine Leagues of the Valke Rugby Union.
With its sights firmly set on 2026, Nigel Rugby Club aims to make a meaningful impact across all competitions and to show its opposition they mean business on the rugby field. As part of this vision, the club plans to introduce an additional team, a new U20 side, alongside its first and second teams.
Pre-season training started in the first week of January. Practice sessions, as well as all home matches, will take place at John Vorster Stadium in Nigel. Training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 to 20:00.
During the off-season, the club worked hard to prepare its facilities and is ready to showcase a top-class rugby stadium and playing field in 2026.
