Lesedi Local Municipality to move Voortrekker Street vendors to Heidelberg Taxi Rank

Informal traders operating on Voortrekker Street will be relocated to a newly demarcated trading area at the Heidelberg Taxi Rank, with only permitted vendors eligible for allocation.

Informal traders currently operating along Voortrekker Street in Heidelberg will be relocated to the Heidelberg Taxi Rank as part of a municipal reorganisation process.

According to a public notice issued by Sizwe Mazibuko, executive manager for Local Economic Development and Planning in Lesedi Local Municipality, the relocation applies to traders who have been formally allocated trading spaces and who comply with the municipality’s Informal Trading Policy.

The municipality confirmed that an internal audit of all Voortrekker Street vendors had been completed.

Only traders with valid permits may operate at the taxi rank. The allocation of trading stalls in the newly demarcated area at the Heidelberg Taxi Rank took place on February 18.

Traders who require further information or guidance on the application process are encouraged to visit the municipal offices to consult the Local Economic Development Unit during office hours.
