Law enforcement agencies have joined forces at the N3 Weighbridge near Heidelberg for Operation Basadi, conducting compliance checks, stop-and-search operations and high-visibility policing to combat crime and promote safer roads.
Law enforcement agencies launched Operation Basadi at the N3 Weighbridge near Heidelberg on August 21, as part of efforts to strengthen road safety, combat crime and enhance high-visibility policing along the N3 corridor.
The operation commenced with a formal parade at the weighbridge, where Lieutenant Colonel Muzikayise Joseph Nkabinde, acting station commander of Heidelberg SAPS, addressed officers on the importance of officer safety, discipline and professionalism while carrying out their duties.

Nkabinde emphasised that Operation Basadi recognises the critical role of women in law enforcement while reinforcing the SAPS’ mandate to combat crime, protect vulnerable groups, and contribute to safer communities.

As part of the operation, law enforcement officers conducted vehicle and driver compliance checks, stop-and-search operations and high-visibility policing aimed at deterring criminal activity along the N3 corridor.

Various emergency services were also working together as part of the operation. The SAPS is appealing to motorists and members of the public to co-operate with law enforcement officers during the operation.
Community members are also urged to report suspected criminal activity to their nearest police station.
