East Rand Woodworkers Association’s annual fair celebrates 22 years of woodworking craft
The free annual event will bring together woodworkers, suppliers and families for a day of demonstrations, handcrafted creations, children's activities and woodworking inspiration.
The East Rand Woodworkers Association (ERWA) hosts its 22nd Annual Fair on October 3, bringing together woodworkers, hobbyists, professionals, suppliers and the public from across Gauteng for a day celebrating the art and craft of woodworking.
According to Antoinette Pieterse of ERWA, the fair provides a place where people who share a passion for woodworking can meet, learn, exchange ideas, and encourage one another.
“The annual fair is an opportunity to take that passion beyond the workshop and share it with the wider community.”
Visitors can expect a wide variety of woodworking-related exhibitors and suppliers, with products and services ranging from tools, machinery and timber to fittings, finishing products and specialist woodworking equipment.
Pieterse adds that there will be something for everyone.
“For those who are already passionate about woodworking, the fair offers the opportunity to discover new products, speak directly to suppliers, compare equipment and materials and meet fellow craftspeople. For newcomers, it is an opportunity to discover how accessible and rewarding woodworking can be.
“And for families and members of the public, the fair offers a glimpse into a fascinating world where creativity, craftsmanship and practical skills come together to transform a piece of timber into something useful, beautiful and lasting.”
“We will have a ladies’ craft section and children’s section where the little ones will be assisted to make their own project to take home.”
A special feature of the fair will be the second-hand table, where woodworkers can buy pre-loved tools and equipment at reasonable prices.
There will also be raffles with prizes contributed by participating suppliers and supporters.
ERWA is particularly proud of the community spirit surrounding the fair.
“The association believes that woodworking is not only about the tools and machinery in a workshop, but about the knowledge shared between generations, the skills passed from one woodworker to another and the friendships built along the way.
“We’ve also opened our doors to fellow woodworking associations, providing opportunities for woodworkers from across the region to exhibit, meet one another and share their knowledge and craftsmanship.
“Whether someone has been working with wood for 30 years or has just picked up their first hand tool, there is always something to learn and someone willing to share their knowledge. That is what makes our association and our annual fair so special.”
