SAPS National Mountain Bike Championship 2018

All nine provinces and SAPS head office in Pretoria entered a team, which totalled a number of 10 teams with 150 participants.

The Northern Cape Province hosted this year’s edition of the SAPS National Mountain Bike Championships, which took place from 19 to 24 August in Kimberley.

All nine provinces and SAPS head office in Pretoria entered a team, which totalled a number of 10 teams with 150 participants.

Captain Piet Rossouw from SAPS Vosloorus (also a member of Route 42 Cycling Club in Nigel) and W/O Willie Kotzee from SAPS Ratanda also participated in the prestigious cycling event. Both agreed they misjudged the terrain this year.

“Despite the fast, rocky, sandy and thorny route, it was an exhilarating experience,” Capt Rossouw said.

W/O Kotzee received a consolation price (Vasbyt) for the male participant who finished the fourth day of the championship with the most punctures. Capt Rossouw performed very well in his age division and said he experienced some strong competition. He finished the championship strong and returned home with a medal in every stage, namely two gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
