The former First Lady Gugu Motlanthe brought a message of encouragement at the Diski Festive Games which kicked off on December 5 at Ratanda Stadium.

As part of the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation’s end-of-year engagement to inspire youth, she encouraged the young soccer players with a message of solidarity.
The Diski Festive Games is a platform for teens, youth and other participants to gather under one banner playing sport, music activities and drama in realisation of a drug free society. It takes place between December 5 and 31.
She said that sports, art and culture help to improve physical and mental well-being and help to reduce stress of daily life, ultimately improving emotional state of being.
“As you grow and progress in your game, remember the sky is the limit. Never stop dreaming and working towards your goal and never lose sight of the ball,” she said.
She reminded everyone that although sporting events have restarted, South Africa is still caught in the grips of the pandemic and that the wearing of masks, social distancing and keeping hands clean are still compulsory.
She also emphasised that spectators should not attend any sporting event when they feel sick or show Covid-19 symptoms.
Hampers with food and Covid-19 PPE items were handed out to the sport teams. She then made her way to the Ratanda Main Clinic where PPE was handed out to the nursing staff.
