Cambridge FC faces Sibiya FC in final match

The Cambridge team lost the final match of the season.

Cambridge FC faced the Kwa-Thema team, Sibiya FC on May 13 for the last match of the season.

“Both teams started the match out slow with both trying to keep possession of the ball,” Cambridge FC chairperson, Ignatius Maphike, said.

“The opening 20 minutes was a tactical affair with both teams trying to find an opening.”

The Sibiya team saw an opening when Cambridge defender Justin Smit pushed up too far without the cover of his midfield partner.

This led to the Sibiya team scoring the first goal of the match.

The Cambridge team managed to get a penalty kick but was unable to convert it into a goal.

The first half ended with a score of 1-0 in favour of Sibiya FC.

“The second half was more energised, but Sibiya FC kept the ball in their possession,” Maphike said.

The Sibiya team scored the second goal of the match in the second half.

The match ended with a final goal of 2-0 for Sibiya FC.

“It was a good match,” said Maphike. “It was a tough season with challenges, though we started well by winning the first seven matches of the season.”

The Cambridge team will now head back to the drawing board to prepare for the next season.

“We are grateful that we kept our status in the league and for the community to have representation on this level,” Maphike said.

“We would like to thank the community for supporting the club and everyone who contributed financially to support us.

“We would also like to invite aspiring players in the area between the ages of 17 and 30 to join us in August this year as we prepare for the new season.”
