Cambridge FC wins 4-1
The game was played in Duduza against the Diambars Sunward Park Academy.
Cambridge FC faced the Diambars Sunward Park Academy in their Hollywood Bets Regional League on November 26.
The match was played at the Duduza Stadium.
“A match played as a curtain-raiser for Jomo Cosmos FC, who plied their trade in the ABC Motsepe League, saw a large number of people turning out to witness the doubleheader and football matches,” said Cambridge FC chairman Ignatius Maphike.
“The Cambridge team started their match quickly off the blocks to showcase their intention of bouncing back to winning ways after the two previous defeats.”
The Cambridge team put the Diambars FC on the back foot, early on with a goal early in the match.
“The heat played a vital role in the energy of the players, but fans still enjoyed the football on display,” Maphike said.
The first half of the match ended 1-0 in favour of Cambridge FC.
During the second half of the match, the Cambridge team added to the pressure and was rewarded when Cambridge player Beron Khumalo scored another goal.
“Cambridge dominated the match and gained their confidence back with every attack,” Maphike explained.
The third goal of the match came through a team effort. Cambridge player Tehbo Mhlanga netted the ball.
“The Diambars team did not go down without a fight,” Maphike said.
“The lead saw the Cambridge players start to relax, which enabled the opposing team to slip past our defences and score their first goal through a penalty.”
Late in the second half, the Cambridge team managed another goal, ending the match with a 4-1 victory.
“I am happy for the win, which we needed,” Maphike said.
“But it was still not a convincing performance and the boys can do better.”
