Heidelberg Rugby Club cruises to three victories as first team crushes Elsburg 86-7

Heidelberg Rugby Club enjoyed a perfect day on home soil, with all three teams recording impressive victories over Elsburg Rugby Club.

Heidelberg Rugby Club delivered a commanding display across all three teams on July 11, as they swept aside Elsburg Rugby Club at Hoër Volkskool Heidelberg.

The first- and second-team fixtures were part of the Valke Rugby Merlin League, while the under-21 clash was played as a friendly.

The day began on a positive note for the Berge, with the under-21 side claiming a convincing 32-17 victory.

The second team maintained the momentum, producing a disciplined performance to defeat Elsburg 33-5.

The first team then completed a memorable afternoon with a dominant 86-7 victory in a one-sided Merlin League encounter.

Heidelberg controlled proceedings from the outset, displaying attacking flair, clinical finishing and a solid defensive effort throughout the match.

The scoreline became so emphatic that the match was called off with 14 minutes remaining under the competition’s mercy rule.

Heidelberg crossed the try line 12 times, with Morne Vermeulen leading the charge by scoring a hat-trick.

Brennan Ryan and Nantus Mouton each added two tries, while Andries Gothan, Morne Viljoen, Jannie Hough, Ieuan Cobus and Adriaan Cilliers also got their names on the scoresheet.

Jannie Hough was outstanding with the boot, successfully converting six tries, while Francois Vorster added two conversions to complete the comprehensive victory.
