HEIDELBERG – More than 20 boxing teams from across Sedibeng converged in Ratanda on August 8 for the Ratanda Boxing Tournament, hosted by Lucky D Boxing at the Ratanda Multipurpose Hall.

The tournament provided a competitive platform for young and emerging boxers to test their skills, gain valuable ring experience and measure themselves against fighters from clubs across the region.

The bouts were officiated by referee Shadymore Masvosva, who played an important role in ensuring that the contests were conducted fairly and in accordance with the rules of the sport.

The strong participation from more than 20 teams highlighted the depth of boxing talent in Sedibeng and the growing interest in the sport among young people.

“Today is about allowing young boxers to showcase their talent, gain experience and learn from one another. We believe sport can change lives by teaching young people discipline, confidence and perseverance.

“We are grateful to all the clubs, coaches, parents, supporters and the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation for supporting this tournament.

“Our goal is to continue creating opportunities for young fighters and helping them realise their potential, both inside and outside the ring,” he said.

Lucky D Boxing has been involved in developing young boxers since 2020, using boxing as a vehicle to promote discipline, physical fitness, confidence and positive youth development.

For the participating fighters, the tournament offered more than an opportunity to compete.

It allowed them to gain experience under competitive conditions, learn from other boxers and build confidence as they pursue their sporting ambitions.

The event also provided coaches with an opportunity to assess their fighters and identify areas for improvement as they prepare for future competitions.
