Lesedi schools unite for sports against crime tournament
Young athletes from primary and secondary schools across Lesedi showcased their sporting talent in football and netball during a tournament hosted by the Lesedi Sports Federation.
School sport took centre stage at Khanya Lesedi School of Specialisation on September 22, as the Lesedi Sports Federation hosted a Sports Against Crime tournament to promote sport, community participation, and greater opportunities for women in sport.
The tournament brought together learners from five primary schools and four secondary schools, with teams competing in football and netball.
The participating primary schools were Fountain Five Primary School, Bertha Gxowa Primary School, Ratanda Primary School, Sithokomele Primary School and Shalimar Ridge Primary School.
The secondary schools were Ratanda Secondary School, Khanya Lesedi SOS, Kgoro Ya Thuto Secondary School and Mountain View High School.
The football programme featured several fixtures, with Ratanda Secondary School facing Khanya Lesedi in the women’s match.
At the same time, Ratanda Secondary School took on Mountain View High School in the men’s fixture.
At primary school level, Shalimar Ridge Primary School played Ratanda Primary School in the women’s fixture, while Sithokomele Primary School met Bertha Gxowa Primary School in the men’s match.
Netball was also part of the tournament, with Fountain Five Primary School facing Ratanda Primary School, while Kgoro Ya Thuto Secondary School played Ratanda Secondary School.
The tournament produced four winning schools: Fountain Five Primary School, Sithokomele Primary School, Mountain View High School and Khanya Lesedi.
While competition was at the heart of the event, the tournament also gave young athletes a chance to showcase their skills, build teamwork and participate in organised sport.
The Lesedi Sports Federation credited the coaches, administrators and executive members for their hard work in developing and supporting sport in the Lesedi community.
The federation also expressed its appreciation to Khanya Lesedi School of Specialization management for hosting the tournament, as well as Ratanda SAPS for their support.
