The residents have now pleaded with the waste department to follow up on the conduct of employees who collect refuse in the area every Wednesday.

According to resident Wisdom Khensani Makondo, the waste collectors refused to take his garbage because his bins have no wheels.

Makondo’s waste bin without wheels.

“I brought bins to the collectors including ones without wheels. I also took my black plastic bags with rubbish.

“The employees didn’t even try to have a conversation with me.

“I was told bluntly that they won’t drag my wheel-less bins around and they won’t take my black plastic bags.

“The waste collectors just left my rubbish in the street,” he said.

Makondo told the Kempton Express that the situation escalated to having an altercation with the waste collectors.

He accused the waste collectors of being rude to him.

“I am tired of being a victim of waste removal. I called the City of Ekurhuleni but they told me to visit their offices for my enquiry to be heard.

“All I want is to be treated equally and to be provided with what I pay for,” said Makondo.

The Express sent an enquiry to the City of Ekurhuleni on May 19. Comment was requested by May 22.
