Traditional artists invited to participate in festival

The event is aimed at promoting traditional music and dance in Gauteng.

I-Afrika Theatre will present the Ubuciko My Talent Ingoma Music & Dance Festival, which will take place at the Springs Theatre on June 11 and at the Tsakane Community Hall on June 18.

The event is aimed at promoting traditional music and dance in Gauteng, more specifically Ekurhuleni, and music and dance groups in this category are all invited to participate.

I-Afrika Theatre has been staging similar events for six years now, and has reached a vast number of participants over the years from all walks of life.

First up will be the showcases, which will be hosted at the Springs Theatre on June 11, from which six groups will be selected to perform at the main event on the 18th.

The main event’s participants will not be competing, but they will be commissioned to perform, and an attractive performance fee has been drawn up for them.

This is another way I-Afrika Theatre is investing in upcoming performers, not only in money but in skill and growth opportunities as well.

All groups doing traditional dance (Zulu, Tswana, Sotho, etc.) gumboot dance, Kofifi dance, traditional music and other similar genres are invited to come and participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity in order to grow in experience and also to gain some exposure.

Interested groups can enter by downloading the form on I-Afrika Theatre’s website.

Alternatively, send an email and request an entry form, or go directly to the office for a copy.
