Allen Park and Eastlands bowlers unite for friendly interclub competition

Bowlers from Allen Park and Eastlands Retirement Estate came together for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie at Allen Park on July 16.

Around 40 bowlers took part in the friendly match, which provided an opportunity for players to enjoy the sport while building relationships with fellow enthusiasts.

Allen Park Bowling Club president Greta Bezuidenhout said the club introduced interclub competitions two years ago to give clubs that are not affiliated with the South African Bowls Association an opportunity to compete against other teams.

“Only 10 of us are registered, so not everyone has the opportunity to play against other clubs. Despite today being a friendly game, it is evident that both clubs want to come out victorious. The standard of play is very high,” said Bezuidenhout.

She added that bowls serves as a reminder that age is only a number, allowing older residents to remain active and compete at a high level, even during retirement.

Eastlands Club member Dawn Crawford, who has played bowls for three years, said she appreciates events that bring clubs together.

“Playing against other clubs helps us collaborate, enjoy the camaraderie and promote the game of bowls. I really enjoy the companionship and friendship, and I live by the saying that bowls is always the winner,” said Crawford.

The friendly match brought together bowlers from both clubs for a day of enjoyment, friendship and a shared love for the sport.
