ECRA believes a DA-led Gauteng government will be the best vehicle for change
EKURHULENI Concerned Residents Association (ECRA) has endorsed the DA’s campaign to govern Gauteng.
Mmusi Maimane, DA Gauteng premier candidate, met with ECRA leadership last week to sign a memorandum of understanding.
ECRA is committed to fighting for better housing and basic services for the residents of Ekurhuleni. Their operations are based in informal settlements in the east of Gauteng.
They believe that a DA-led Gauteng government will be the best vehicle for change.
“ECRA will mobilise support for the DA based on the following pledges should I be elected premier in 2014,” Maimane said
• Speeding up the expansion of state-subsidised housing by providing serviced plots close to urban centres
• Ensuring that beneficiaries of state-subsidised housing receive the title deeds to their homes
• Support for community-based businesses by expanding the provincial government’s community supplier database, access to tender information for small businesses, and breaking down large tenders into smaller ones to make it easier for small businesses to compete
• Opening up consultation with community organisations and residents on the type of delivery government should be bringing to their area
• Combating corruption and waste in government so that more money can be directed to service delivery through revising the Ministerial Handbook in Gauteng, not allowing any person convicted of fraud or corruption to hold public office, opening tender committee meetings to the public and preventing government officials from doing business with the state
