The spokesperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Mr Kgabo Boloko, said those who are trying to intimidate members of the EFF do so at their own peril.
This follows a confrontation between members of the EFF and the ANC next to the Winnie Mandela Clinic on Saturday last week.
Speaking shortly after members from both parties had a go at each other just five metres from the clinic, Mr Boloko said the EFF has been campaining in the area for the past two weeks.
“Today we started our campaign at 9am, moving around the area and encouraging people to register for the general elections. We are also preparing for our manifesto launch which will be held at the Mehlaring Stadium on February 22,” he said.
He alleged that shortly after 4pm, members of the ANC arrived in two buses and a truck. The members started their own election campaining only 50 metrs from them.
“We were surprised when members of the ANC confronted us and told us we were making a noise. We told them to mind their own business. We nearly exchanged blows, and let me put the record straight, no one will bully us in this country,” he said.
When asked if they expected other political parties to intimidate them when they launch their manifesto on Saturday next week, he said the EFF expects all political parties to respect each other, as enshrined in the constitution.
“We are not expecting any confrontation on Saturday, but if people try to intimidate us, we will fight fire with fire. I am also calling on all EFF members to come in big numbers and listen to their leader, Comrade Julius Malema,” he said.
