Learners warned about drugs
They develop and distribute new educational material to meet the challenge of changing drug trends
DRUGS are essentially poison.
This message was brought to grade 11 pupils of Birchleigh High School when Maurithus Meiring and Claud Lamprecht of Drug Free World Africa visited the school on March 3.
They taught pupils that the amount of drugs taken by someone determines the effect it has on the person.
Meiring said a small amount acted as a stimulant (speeds you up), while a greater amount would act as a sedative (slows you down). He said a very large amount can poison and even kill.
Learners were armed with a Truth about drugs booklet which explained the dangers of drugs and would assist them in making a more informed decision.
A Drug Free World is a secular, non-profit public benefit corporation which was formed in 2006. They develop and distribute new educational material to meet the challenge of changing drug trends.
Lamprecht said: “We do different types of events to get the truth about drugs to all of mankind through lectures, drug educational programmes, pledge signings, information booths, booklet distributing, airings of public service announcements and radio and television documentaries.”
Drug Free World Kempton Park was recently launched and plan two big events. The first will be a 5km and 10km night marathon and the second a modelling competition which will be a Drug Free World beauty pageant.
