More low cost housing on the cards

The units will cover about 32.6732 ha of undeveloped land in Esther Park

HOT on the heels of a low cost housing project planned in Pomona, follows another one, this time in Esther Park.

An application for environmental authorisation has been lodged with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality proposes to construct low cost housing on undeveloped land bordered by Plane Road, Gifboom Street and Zuurfontein Road (M39).

The units will cover about 32.6732 ha of land. Individual stands will be serviced with electricity, potable water and sanitation.

The project will also include the construction of formalised roads within the development footprint, providing access to each stand. The proposed development site is located on Portions 276, 277 and the remainder of Portion 24 of the farm Zuurfontein 33.

The proposed development is subject to a scoping and EIA process. All Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) are requested to register with Nemai Consulting in order to receive any future correspondence and information regarding the proposed project.

A public meeting may only be held if requested, and the time and date of the public meeting will be confirmed with all registered I&APs.

A copy of the draft scoping report will be available for public review at Kempton Park Library from May 23 until June 24.

Register or provide all comments to Nemai consulting by June 24.

Pomona residents found out about a similar project in their suburb at the end of April are gearing up to fight the proposed housing project comprising 500 units.

The proposal involves the construction of housing units which will cover about 12 hectares of vacant land bordered by Outeniqua and Methley roads.
