ALTHOUGH the municipality claims to be serious about clamping down on water leaks, Kempton Express had three such complaints the past weeks.
In all instances the water meters have been leaking for weeks or months.
A water meter on a property in Glen Marais has been broken and leaking since February, and is becoming a real inconvenience for the property owner and his neighbours.
Wietz van Lelyveld said the meter started leaking some months ago and he tried to contact the municipality. After several failed attempts, he contacted ward councillor Jaco Terblanche, who registered the matter.
Van Lelyveld said his driveway was starting to sink in and his neighbours’ driveway was also starting to get affected.
Antoinette van Dyk from Terenure also had a leaking water meter, which was only fixed after three weeks.
Another resident, who lives on Parkland Drive, said his water meter had been leaking for three weeks, despite phoning the call centre every second day. He said his water bill was normally R30 but it had now risen to R328.
The metro did not comment at the time of going to print.
