Fuel shortage halts refuse removal

Henning said the big question was why there was no fuel at the Kempton depot

REFUSE removal in certain suburbs came to a halt as the metro apparently experiences a fuel shortage. Some Kemptonians’ refuse has not been collected since Tuesday. Among the areas affected are Norkem Park and Glen Marais.

Ward councillor Pieter Henning said there was no diesel at the Kempton Park refuse removal depot. Trucks now go to the Springs depot to fuel up.

Henning said the big question was why there was no fuel at the Kempton depot. He believes it could be related to the start of the new financial year on July 1.

At the end of June the metro also ran into a fuel crisis.

The metro has not commented at the time of publishing. Kempton Express will publish more information as soon as it becomes available.
