Petition for improvement of roads to be submitted
The petition for improved road infrastructure in Birch Acres is with regards to concerns of unsafe driving by motorists, such as speeding
DA PR councillor for ward 13, Allan Sauls, is planning on submitting a petition on behalf of residents to request road infrastructure improvement in the Birch Acres at the next council meeting on August 28.
This comes after concerns were raised by residents that pertain to unsafe driving habits by motorists. Sauls plans on a petition to request the municipality to improve road conditions by implementing infrastructure such as speed humps and traffic circles.
“The petition will be introduced by way of a questionnaire requesting the public’s response on a few questions regarding the impact of poor road use by motorists, as a way to get some kind of indication from other residents on their concerns on the road usage.”
Residents are asked to reply to the list of four questions below, with either a “YES” or “NO” option:
1. Is poor road use, such as speeding, not stopping at stop signs, etc a problem in the Birch Acres area?
2. Do you consider poor road use a danger to the community, especially for children?
3. Would you consider signing a petition to be forwarded to council to improve the poor road use in Birch Acres?
4. Would you agree to traffic calming measures like speed humps and traffic circles replacing stop streets at intersections?
Residents are requested to respond to the questionnaire either via SMS, Whatsapp or email directly to Sauls’ cell phone number, 082-685-7951. The responses, either “YES” or “NO”, must be in the same sequence as the questions. The email address to respond to is allan.sauls@ekurhuleni.gov.za, with the subject line “Petition”.
The petition, if supported by the Birch Acres community, would be signed during August for submission to council at the end of August.
Information tables where the petition will be available for signing will be set up throughout August, starting on August 1, on Fridays and Saturdays from 2pm until 5.30pm and 9am until 12pm. The last day to sign the petition will be on August 23.
