HOPEFULLY Petronella Street in Birchleigh North will be fixed soon.
The condition of this road is in a dismal state of affairs, despite numerous requests to the roads and transport department to address the problem, ward councillor Johann Jordaan said.
After Kempton Express referred the matter to the metro, they undertook to take action.
“The matter has been referred to the water section to fix the leak first and then the roads section will attend to the potholes,” a spokesman said.
Jordaan said after conducting an audit of roads in Ward 91, he compiled a comprehensive report to the department of roads and transport, indicating the condition of the roads in this ward, of which Petronella Street was identified as a high priority.
“No action was taken by the department, so I brought up the issue again in the roads and transport oversight meeting in April. In June I received feedback from the department, indicating that maintenance work would be carried out on June 21,” he said.
“After the work was completed, I returned to Petronella Street only to find that the work carried out was sub-standard and as a result, made little difference to the conditions of this road. Residents of this street have been forced to partially drive on the pavement as a result. The extent of the damage even makes it difficult for 4X4 vehicles to access the road,” Jordaan said.
It is totally unacceptable that ratepayers are constantly failed by this administration. Petronella Street is one of the many roads in this metro that has fallen foul of negligence. I will write to the MMC of Roads and Transport to demand that swift and competent action is taken to rectify this appalling situation.
