A new The Tembisan

The first week of September 2014 saw Tembisa residents getting their hands on the newly revamped The Tembisan.

The Tembisan now showcases Caxton‘s excellent standard of newspaper design, high standard of journalism, its dedication to reach and serve its communities, and living up to its motto of excellence.

These qualities are complimented by Caxton’s dedication to providing a quality product to its advertisers using this local newspaper as an advertising and marketing platform.

The revamp project was also steered towards one specific goal – giving Tembisa residents a newspaper that speaks to them.

It included numerous months of planning, focusing on reader input via focus groups and questionnaires, studying other publications and identifying and implementing successful concepts that work, discarding those that don’t and profiling Tembisan readers and advertisers.

Content has always been king and editorial quality will further improve with journalists covering in-depth stories, exposing what needs to be exposed and giving acknowledgement to achievers.

“As journalists, readers let us into their homes and lives. They trust us to tell the stories of their joy, pain, difficulties and concerns. They trust us to find the right words for what they want to say. That is a significant responsibility and one we take seriously. It is a privilege to write Tembisa residents’ stories. We now have the opportunity of telling those stories via a reader-friendly newspaper, attracting readers and advertisers,” said the Editor, Marietta Lombard.

Content, in the future, will also include stories written by our readers. The #TembisanMyTembisa page will be dedicated to featuring stories written by residents.

Circulation and business opportunities

We have moved away from a sole distributor and created a business opportunity targeting people within the Tembisa community (and outside) to become self-employed.

In addition to growing distribution of this publication, this venture has the main aim of assisting the unemployed.

This business opportunity is in the form of a vendor scheme with permits registered members to pre-order the publication at a reduced rate and earn 100 percent profit on their sales. To encourage growth of sales another opportunity exists in the form that any registered vendor who orders a minimum quantity of the publication every single edition for a full period of six month period, will receive an additional incentive percentage on their total sales for that period back in cash.

On registration as a vendor and at each incentive pay-out, we confirm sale points of this publication for each vendor and are therefore able to better report on our distribution footprint.

Our print order increased due to the roll-out of this vendor scheme. Our print order increased to 17 000. This figure will fluctuate over the next six months as this new vendor scheme settles; however we are confident on a 20 percent growth year-on-year from this point forward.
