Pledge signed on Casual Day

The pledge is an agreement by the Operational Response Services Division of the SAPS to not discriminate against disabled employees

A pledge against the discrimination of disabled people, including employees of the police, was signed in celebration of Casual Day.

The pledge was made by the SAPS Operational Response Services (ORS) division during a Casual Day event hosted by OR Tambo’s SAPS at Barnard Stadium.

A speaker from the Pretoria head office of the ORS unit spoke about various issues such as not discriminating against disabled employees and instead treating them equally because they are a part of society.

“The police accept people living with disabilities and we encourage them to have the courage and confidence to live their lives, regardless of what stigma society places on them. Always remember that God loves us all equally,” Col Constance Mamabolo said.

“There are various issues that also need to be resolved to make the work environment more inclusive, such as printing job application forms in Braille, for example, so they are user friendly for the blind.”

According to Christopher Mofokeng from Employee Health and Wellness at OR Tambo SAPS, the main objective of the day was to “bring all the police employees together on Casual Day to give assurance to employees with disability that support and care are maintained, as well as to be reminded that their contribution to the organisation was greatly valued.”

After the formalities, the fun part started when a soccer game and other fun games, including tug-of-war and sack races, were played.
