R24 highway lights should be fixed by end of September

Vavi said monitoring of the situation would be improved

LIGHTS along the R24 Albertina Sisulu Freeway will be operational again by the end of the month.

The delay in fixing the lights along the R24 stemmed from a shortage of material needed to repair this long standing problem, Graham Gersbach, DA MPL said.

He received the information in a reply to his questions from the MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi.

“What is of concern is that the MEC has indicated that vandalism and theft were the primary causes of the outages. If the department is aware of this, then it should be monitoring the situation to avoid the unnecessary waste of taxpayers’ money and a more efficient use of the department’s budget.”

Vavi said monitoring of the situation would be improved.
