More than 4 000 angry members of the Tembisa Concerned Residents group are calling for the resignation of the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele, with immediate effect.
They are accusing the mayor of failing to provide much-needed services to residents.
Clad in red colours and chanting freedom songs, the group marched from Tsenelong, Winnie Mandela and the surrounding areas to the Rabasotho municipal offices on Thursday, where they handed over a memorandum to municipal officials.
They were marching against what they call poor service delivery from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
Members from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department and the police escorted residents from the start of the march until the end.
When reading the memorandum, a representative from the Tembisa Concerned Residents group said they were giving the premier of Gauteng, David Makhura, 14 days to respond to their grievances, failure of which they will increase the pressure on the municipality until their demands are met.
