Baby girl, two others killed as truck hits e-toll bridge
Ten people injured in head-on taxi collision
THREE people, including a baby girl, were killed in an early morning accident on the R21 this morning.
Another child, about four years old, was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.
According to Santi Steinmann, Netcare 911 spokesman, a heavy goods vehicle collided with an e-toll bridge pillar around 2.30am.
She said services had to climb up against and into the heavy goods vehicle cab to establish the number of occupants and their condition.
It was found that a man, woman and baby girl tragically lost their lives while another girl was found to be in a critical condition.
The bodies of the deceased were entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by using the Jaws of Life.
The Netcare1 helicopter was activated to airlift the critically injured child to hospital.
In another accident this morning on the corner of Central Avenue and Blockhouse Street, two taxi collided head-on, injuring 10 ten people.
According to Danielle Dooley, Emer-G-Med spokesman, all 10 patients sustained minor injuries. “We transported eight of the patients to hospital while another service took the other two,” she said.
