Cape team to play in the house of pain

Sparks are expected to fly when the high-riding Highlands Park FC lock horns with the unpredictable Vasco Da Gama from the Western Cape at the Makhulong Stadium on Sunday.

Well-known Tembisa-based soccer administrator and marketing guru, Sinky “Twalaza” Mnisi, said the local lads have been working hard during the week, preparing for the game.

“The boys are raring to go and have promised that nothing will stop them from winning the game,” he said.

The former public relations officer of Ria Stars in the Professional Soccer Leage (PSL), marketing manager of Jomo Cosmos and owner of Vardos FC, said they have declared Makhulong Stadium as their slaughter house for visiting teams.

During his days with Ria Stars, Makhulong Stadium was known as the house of pain and suffering. His well-known slogan, “Kha vha dzhene thaneleni ” (get through the tunnel), used to send shivers down the visiting teams’ spines.

It was too difficult, if not impossible, to get through that tunnel and win the game, let alone score a single goal.

“On Sunday, we are going to welcome Vasco Da Gama to the house of pain and suffering, and once they walk through that tunnel, they will never come out with a single point,” he said.

He is calling on all local supporters to come to the stadium in big numbers to support the local team.

Soccer fans who would like to know more about the game can phone the team’s number one supporter, affectionately known as Nandos, on 082 624 3021.

Ticket prices are R10 for adults and children under the age of 13 will not pay.
