ARWYP Medical Centre experienced a water crisis in the midst of the water crisis in Ekurhuleni some weeks ago.
The two water tanks ran dry on September 23 and through the intervention of the DA, officials opened a bypass line to ensure the water supply was restored.
“Fortunately all surgeries had been completed at the time of the water running dry, so no major inconveniences were experienced,” Mike Waters, DA MP, said during a visit to the hospital on September 26. Ward councillor Tracey Butler accompanied him.
Karin Lindeque, executive marketing manager for Arwyp Medical Centre, said: “Although Arwyp Medical Centre delivers a critical service to our community, we had to deal with a water crisis. We would like to thank the DA for their ongoing assistance and support to ensure that we serve the people of Kempton Park.
“We were informed that our normal water supply comes from Isando. The water pressure was very low and wasn’t enough to keep up with the business demand. Management informed Tracey Butler when we received notification that there was no water at the hospital.
“Mike Waters raised the issue with the mayor and he said he would arrange for tankers to supply water to the hospital. The water tankers never arrived but they opened a line from Strydom Park,” Lindeque said.
