Residents wait for premier’s response
The convener of the Tembisa Concerned Residents, Mr Joseph Matlaila, said the office of the premier of Gauteng, Clr David Makhura, contacted him on Tuesday this week with regards to the memorandum sent to him almost three weeks ago.
Last month, residents of Tembisa marched to the Rabasotho Municipal offices, where they voiced their anger against the government’s failure to deliver services to the township.
During the march, residents also called for the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondle Gungubele, to resign.
Residents gave the premier 14 days to respond to their demands.
Speaking to The Tembisan on Wednesday morning, Mr Matlaila said, “They said one of their officials was on leave and could not discuss the memorandum in his absence. They said they will send us an acknowledgement of receiving our memorandum today (Wednesday), and will respond to it in due course,” he said.
When asked if they are still calling for the mayor to resign, he said all the demands on the memorandum have to be met.
“We are still demanding that the mayor, the MMC for Roads and Transport in Ekurhuleni, Clr Thumbu Mahalngu, Clr Dudu Mahlangu, Clr J Mkhwanazi and Clr Aubrey Mokgotsi, resign with immediate effect,” he said.
