Bredell murderers get 16 years each
Nicolas Pienaar and Alec Cooks murdered the deceased after the victim complained about their loud music

TWO men who beat to death a 45-year-old man in 2011 over loud music, were sentenced to 16 years imprisonment each.
Nicolas Pienaar (23) and Alec Cooks (27) were found guilty of the murder of Ernest van der Merwe and sentenced on September 25.
Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesman for Kempton Park SAPS, said on the day of the incident, the deceased had been asleep at about 2.30am, when he was woken up by loud music coming from his neighbour’s house on Plot 286 on Third Avenue, Bredell.
“The victim went over to the neighbour’s home to request them to lower the volume of their music. A fight ensued between the men and the deceased was assaulted by Pienaar and Cooks,” Mtshali said.
Van der Merwe was taken to hospital where he was later certified dead.
After a marathon trial with Detective W/O Robert Motsai leading the investigations, the accused were convicted of murder.
