0-0 stalemate for teams
New Generations FC played to a 0-0 draw against Boyne United in an entertaining game played at the Makhulong Grounds on Sunday.
But if soccer was boxing, United would have won the game on points, as the team missed clear scoring opportunities for the better part of the game.
The main culprit was the striker, Patrick Mbatha, who missed two sitters with only the goalkeeper to beat.
One the other hand, New Generations FC controlled the midfield with ease in the second half, and dished out good passes to the strikers.
But the strikers’ undoing was instead of shooting from a distance, they wanted to walk the ball into the net.
New Generations FC’s midfielder-cum-striker, Themba Sindane, was a marvel to watch in the midfield.
He had his opponents at sixes and sevens whenever he had the ball, but also failed to penetrate the hard-as-a-rock United defence.
When the final whistle blew, both teams had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
After the game, New Generations FC’s coach, Robert Sithagu, said his team played well but failed to where it mattered most – in front of the goals.
“We will go back to the drawing board and rectify our mistakes,” he said.
