THE Clean Kempton Project, aimed at eradicating Kempton of it’s eyesore graffiti, has kicked off.
The project was initiated and is driven by local businessman, Dr Hennie Barnard of EEU Taltronics and EEU Personnel.
These businesses are sponsoring the entire project as they acknowledge the benefits and luxury of a community living and working in a graffiti-free city.
The project is executed by a team of three men with Johnny Bosman leading them.
The two painters, Patrick Phutheni and Nkosithembile Puteni, has never worked for more than a few days at the time since they left school and both were unemployed at the time they’ve joined this project.
They have been trained in all aspects of outdoor painting and are now using these skills to remove and cover graffiti to restore substations, bridges and walls to their original condition.
Phuteni remarked: “It feels so good to have a stable job and earn honest money while doing something for the community, especially with Christmas around the corner.”
According to Barnard two of the challenges are to predict the weather so that an afternoon shower does not undo the day’s painting efforts, and to properly restore face-brick walls defaced by graffiti.
Hardware stores and paint shops who wish to show their support by donating paint, rollers, brushes, sand paper or even discount on relevant purchases, need to contact Johnny Bosman on 079-982-9656.
The rollers and pans donated by Frankert Paints and the 40 litres of paint donated by Painter’s Friend are hereby acknowledged.
