Metro prays for road safety
Metro officials along with EMPD, SAPS, faith based organisations and community members held a prayer session at the N12
MMC for Community Safety, Clr Mthuthuzeli Siboza, with the EMPD, hosted a festive season prayer at the N12 freeway on November 20.
The prayer session was held for the purpose of praying for accident-free roads as the country entered the festive season, usually a time when road accident rates sky rocketed.
The procession started at Brackenhurst Hall in Alberton and moved to the N12 where four people lost their lives in a horror crash involving a truck and 48 cars last month.
Joining the prayer session included MMC for Public Transport, Planning and Provision, Clr Thumbu Mahlangu, acting Ekurhuleni Chief of Police, Ugeshni Naidoo, SAPS Southern Region cluster commander, Brig Phumla Mdlankomo, as well as faith based organisations and members of the community.
Siboza warned motorists countrywide against drinking and driving and urged them to adhere to the rules of the road.
“Alcohol and driving do not go together. I hope we will have a safe and accident free festive season in our region,” concluded Siboza.
