THE almost 3 000 job openings in Ekurhuleni Metro have a serious repercussion on service delivery, the DA said.
This was revealed in a statement released by the DA, in which it questioned whether the ruling party was serious about job creation.
It has also been revealed that R73 million of the repairs and maintenance budget for the energy department was unspent, even after the many power outages experienced by the metro this year.
According to the opposition party, this might be due to the staff shortages within the department.
The DA suspects the unfilled job posts meant that essential tasks were ignored for weeks on end or not done at all while one person struggled to do the job of two or even three people.
The DA said if the metro were “serious” about delivering services to the community, they would ensure that these vacant posts were filled; which would also be an opportunity to provide jobs to 3 000 unemployed residents.
