THE public swimming pool in Birchleigh were closed for several weeks due to technical problems with the pump.
Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, the problem was picked up on November 11. The pump was removed the same day and submitted for quotations to repair.
The normal procurement procedures were followed and the pump was repaired and re-installed on November 25.
“During the two weeks the pool was closed, notices were placed at the entrance to inform the public and that we were attending to the matter with the highest priority,” Gadebe said.
“The Birchleigh pool is not often closed to the public but technical problems do occur and we do try to rectify it as soon as possible to ensure that the best service is provided to public.
“The City of Ekurhuleni confirms that the pool is hygienically safe and ready for public use. Due to the hot summer season and the high demand by residents to use the swimming pool to cool down, the recovery process to get the pool to its complete clear blue normal condition will take slightly longer.
“Both the baby pool and the main pool run on the same filter and reticulation system, hence both pools turned green when the technical problem occurred. Municipal officials are doing everything in their power to ensure that the quality of the pool gets back to its clear blue state that it always has been in.”
