A pothole on Vlei Street in Glen Marais has damaged the tyres of many motorists in past weeks, yet nothing is being done about it.
The pothole is 100m from the Total Garage driving towards Laerskool Kruinsig.
Taryn Macdonald was one such victim on Sunday. “The pothole was in the shadows of the trees and not noticeable until you were on top of it.
“I hit the pothole, busting my tyre. I drove to the nearby garage where there were four other people having their tyres changed too. The garage attendant told me I was the 7th person that morning who had hit the hole,” Macdonald said. “While walking down the road to take the photos of the hole, there were another three people who had hit it. This is totally unacceptable and something needs to be done about the state of roads in Kempton Park.
Dawn Mey was one of the other victims that same morning at 10am.
“I have destroyed the front and back right tyres. Tyres are not a cheap item to replace.
“When I got to the service station there was another motorist there having their tyre changed. While they were helping me change my tyres, another two cars came in with the same problem,” Mey said.
“The petrol attendants said they had lost count of the number of people that have had tyres destroyed by this pothole. I believe the residents are trying to help by filling the hole with sand and stones but it is not helping.
“When will something be done!”
Express is still waiting for comment from the metro.
Earlier this week the DA reported that the repair of potholes in the metro had come to a standstill. Express is also waiting for comment on this matter.
