The man was sentenced in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday last week.
Sakhile Khumalo was arrested in 2013 after he was found in a possession of a cellular phone stolen during a house robbery in Hospital View.
According to the Tembisa SAPS Cluster’s communications director, Captain Manyadza Ralidzhivha, Khumalo and his friends went to a house in Hospital View and threatened the owner of the cellular phone with a knife.
“After ransacking the house, Khumalo stole the cellular phone. He was later arrested with the help of members of the community,” he said.
Captain Ralidzhivha is appealing to members of the community to always work together with police in rooting out crime in Tembisa.
“Together, we can win the war against crime,” he said.
