The Tembisa SAPS has asked pupils to refrain from associating themselves with criminals and drug addicts.
Addressing pupils at Thembisa High School on Wednesday morning last week, the head of crime prevention at the Tembisa Police Station, Captan Tefu, said pupils should not associate themselves with criminal elements in the community. He said pupils should concentrate on their education.
“You must also arrive at school on time, and make sure you do your homework. Don’t allow drug dealers to use you to sell drugs at school. When they approach you, report them to the police,” he said.
But there was a loud chorus of discontent when he said pupils should not involve themselves in love matters as they are still children.
“Right now, your responsibility is to focus on your studies. The other things will come later. I was called to a school where a boy went to a women’s toilet and kissed a female pupil. The boy had to be taken to my office for disciplinary purposes and right now he knows that he is at school to learn,” said Capt Tefu.
He asked pupils if they want to be like nyaope addicts who are seen helping taxi passengers across the township.
In unison, the pupils replied with a resounding “no”.
“Then go out there and spread the message to other pupils that they should not touch drugs and alcohol. You should focus on education so that you can be responsible and educated future leaders,” he said.
